Just Start

Just-start

Want Some Unsolicited Advice? Just start. Whatever idea you have, it’s time to make it happen. Just Start: My Story About eight years ago, I started a blog about teaching in a Korean university on Google’s free platform, Blogger. I don’t remember exactly what my motivation was, but I think I just wanted to talk teaching, share my victories, and talk about my struggles to whomever wanted to read about it. I had no idea…

October 2015 Passive Income Report: Holding Steady

Passive income for 2015 could best be characterized as “holding steady.” I earned $1713, a little bit less than the month before of $1752. It’s mostly because September is traditionally a much better month than October for dividends as it’s the end of the quarter. For the second month in a row, I earned more than $400 on my ebooks on Amazon, and I also saw some early sales from a few new affiliates that I added:…

Building Passive Income Streams = Financial Freedom

Financial Freedom = Choices Financial freedom sounds pretty good, right? To me, financial freedom doesn’t equal luxury but it means a whole lot more life choices than you’d have without money in the bank. For example, with a decent money-pool, you could: 1. Quit your job without a new one lined up. 2. Travel for a few months. 3. Be generous and donate money to charity or help out a friend or family member who…

What is Passive Income?

An Overview: What is Passive Income? Passive income is earnings received on a consistent basis without investing effort for each and every dollar earned. Most people think that passive income is ‘easy money’ but this isn’t really the case. In reality, it demands a lot of hard work. How to Make Money Online the Not-Sketchy Way

Sketchy Ways to Make Money Online? There are Plenty of Them Let’s be real-there are plenty of sketchy, sketchy people out there looking to scam others in order to make money online. Unsolicited Advice and Why I Don’t Give a S*&# About It

Thanks, I Guess? Being out in the world of the Internet leaves you open and available for unsolicited advice of all kinds. I get an email or a message at least a couple times a week from people, both friends and random Internet netizens offering me advice that I didn’t ask for, on a whole range of topics. Now, I’m not hating on these people because at some level, they really do just want to…

The English Teaching Empire Grows: A New Book is Out

Maybe I’ll Live in a Station-Wagon? Maybe you’ve seen some of my posts from a while back about how I’m moving to Canada, after living for 10 years in Korea, in a few months from now (March 2016)? The plan for how I’m going to avoid living out of the back of a station-wagon and going surfing in Tofino every day is kind of up in the air for now. Wait, that plans doesn’t…

Starting something new: what are you giving up?

A lot of people that I meet think it’s amazing that I have 5 books up on Amazon (see them all here) which I wrote all within the last 1.5 years. Then, many of them will say something like: “I want to write a book too!” “I have this idea for a website.” “I want to start a business when I go home.” “I want to build some passive income streams too.” My…

Building an Online Empire: The Pieces are Falling into Place

Building an Online Empire: Everything Going Right Lately it seems that everything has been going my way as I continue with the building of an online/self-publishing empire in preparation for my return to Canada in 8 months where I hope to make a living doing that full-time. I finished work a couple weeks ago and have been spending a few hours in the office each day, building websites, writing books, doing self-promotion and other stuff…

March 2015 Passive Income Report: $696

passive income

March 2015 came it an impressive $695.77, which I’m very happy about since anything over $500 is a very good month for me. The majority of it ($536) was in dividend payments but sales of my Ebooks How to Get a University Job in South Korea: The English Teaching Job of Your Dreams and The Wealthy English Teacher: Teach, Travel, and Secure Your Financial Future were also significant. While my Amazon sales were not huge…

2014 Passive Income Report

This past year, I earned $4375 in passive income, for an average of $365/month. The bulk of this was in dividend payouts (over $3000) and Hubpages (formerly Squidoo) with just over a $1000. I am going to write 2 more ebooks within the next year (hopefully the next few weeks actually!) so that revenue stream will increase significantly for 2015. And although Hubpages sometimes feels like a bit of a tough slog, I earned $1000…

December 2014 Passive Income Report

This month’s passive income totaled $725.01, most of which was dividends. December is traditionally the best month of the year for dividend payouts. I also earned a decent amount for my Ebook How to Get a University Job in South Korea: The English Teaching Job of Your Dreams ($25); I’d be pretty happy if I kept earning this amount each month. For a detailed look at my passive income report, check out this link. Compared…

August 2014 Passive Income Report

August 2014 was a pretty slow month in terms of passive income, totaling $216.46. But, I added up the total, year to date and it’s around $2500. Not bad for the very little amount of time and energy I put into it. You can see my passive income report here. Something I am happy about is Iherb, which I am getting an increasing amount of money from each month. Something that seems to be working…

It’s not all about the money

I think a misconception that “poor” people have about “rich” or “well-off” people is that it’s all about the money and rich people are constantly checking their bank accounts or obsessing about how to get more money continuously. I’m certainly not rich, but I do have enough money to live a comfortable life and for me, it’s not all about the money. I only check my stock brokerage account around once a month, and when…

July 2014 Passive Income Report

This month wasn’t great in terms of passive income, coming in with a total of $219.09, but I didn’t exactly put a lot of effort into maintaining my current sites or building new ones due to how busy I was at the day job, which is always a frustration. Plus, I was on vacation in Malaysia for a large part of it. Check out the specifics of my July 2014 Passive Income Report here. Comparing…

A Podcast I Love: Smart Passive Income-Pat Flynn

One of the podcasts that I listen to for inspiration and practical tips related to passive income is, “The Smart Passive Income” podcast by Pat Flynn. Pat is an upbeat kind of guy and extremely savvy about the Internet business world. I’ve already learned a lot from him including the importance of podcasting (I’d like to start my own!), and why you can’t do everything by yourself (I’d like eventually get big enough to hire…
