How to Grow Your Email List-Top 3 Tips

3 ways to grow your email list quickly

It’s All About the Email List

If you listen to any of the Internet marketing podcasts like Smart Passive Income, or read any of the stuff from people like Tim Ferris at the 4-Hour Workweek, you’ll know it’s all about the email list. Social media is great at maintaining contact and connecting with your audience but like Pat Flynn says, “Selling to people through social media is like going to a party, meeting somebody for the first time, and then saying, ‘Hey, do you want to buy this Tupperware?’”

Start Collecting Emails Now!

If you want to sell something to people, one of the best ways is through an email list and Pat Flynn always says that one of his biggest regrets with regards to his online business was not starting to collect emails sooner. I also have the same regret and can’t believe I only got started with it a few short months ago. Better late than never I guess.

1098-Not Bad for Just a Few Months

As of this second, my email list is at 1098, and that’s only the active people who open emails and click on stuff. I regularly go through the list and delete anyone who has received 8 emails with no action. I’m sure you want to know how to grow your email list, right?

Here’s how I got this many active subscribers in a relatively short amount of time:

#1: Pop-Ups

The first way is with pop-ups on my websites using SumoMe. It’s super-easy to use with the plugin for self-hosted WordPress sites and you can feed the emails directly to your list (I use MailChimp to manage all those emails, but it also works with Aweber-the other popular one out there). The key to making this work is to give people something for free that they really want-perhaps a short book, access to a course, some secret posts of yours, a free trial for your product, etc. This is called a lead-magnet.

#2: Contests

A couple months ago, I read this post over on Smart Passive Income about a guy growing his email list in a massive way through using KingSumo Giveaways. It fixes the fatal flaw in most contests that are intended to grow email lists-the fact that nobody has any incentive to share the contest around on social media because it reduces their own chance of winning.

So far I’ve run three contests, offering prizes that cost me nothing but offered value to my audience. I posted them around on Facebook groups, tweeted it out a few times and let the magic happen. The potential is definitely there for way more contest email list sign-up happiness.

#3: Epic Content

The final thing you can do to grow your email list is create great content that people talk about and share, especially on places like Facebook. Once you have eyeballs on your site, you can collect emails through either inserting a sign-up box into that post, or through the pop-up that I already mentioned.

The Takeaway

Email lists are important and anyone with an online business should be all over that. If you haven’t started yet, don’t beat yourself up but take some action now.

Go on over to MailChimp and sign-up for a free account. Have a look around and see what you think-it really is very user-friendly. Then, get the SumoMe plugin and put some pop-ups on your sites. But, don’t forget a lead-magnet or it won’t work that well. Then, put your operation into high-gear and run some contests and write some epic content that drives a ton of traffic to your site.

Email list awesome = not so difficult! You just have to get started.
