Is building passive income streams worth your time?

Whenever I tell friends about this blog, a question they often have is, “Is the time you spent worth it?”

This is kind of a hard question to answer. Truthfully, I’ve never kept track of the number of hours. But, for example on Squidoo, I’ve earned about $5000 in 3 years and I expect to earn at least that much in the future. I spent maybe 500 hours setting all those pages up. So, at $10/hour, it’s not bad but in the beginning it was more like $0.10/hour. It’s just hard to calculate, especially considering that I have no idea what the future will hold.

But, the answer I usually give to my friends is this: Yes, it’s worth it. Working one hour and getting paid for that hour is not how people get rich or live comfortably. People have comfortable lives by having money coming in, in a way that doesn’t involve actually physically working for that one hour. There are various ways to have this money coming in such as real estate, investing, owning a physical business or of course online ventures.
