Ask Pat Podcast: I’m on it!

I’m Really Into Pat Flynn

So, I’m just going to nerd out for a quick minute here and I hope you don’t mind. I’m really into Pat Flynn over at Smart Passive Income and that’s probably kind of an understatement. I think he’s a genius in the Internet marketing world and also just an all-around nice guy who really wants to help people.

I’m on Ask Pat!

He started up this new podcast called Ask Pat (I’m episode #324) where his fans can send him in questions and he’ll answer them in about 10 minutes. I’ve found it super-helpful so far, so I decided to send in my own question. It was about my book, How to Get a University Job in South Korea and the question was about my narrow niche.

My Question: A Very Narrow Niche

I mentioned in the question that the good news is that there isn’t any competition and while I’m selling 1-2 copies/day, the bad news is that the niche is extremely narrow and I’m not sure there’s a lot more room to grow. I was wondering whether to continue focusing on this niche or move into a more competitive space.

Pat’s Answer: Optimize!

Pat basically said that I need to make sure I’ve done everything I can to optimize this niche before moving onto the next one and he mentioned a lot of specific ways to do this. He was encouraged by the 1-2 sales a day for the past 3 months, which made me happy because I’ve been feeling like it actually wasn’t that good! He said if I could even double that, it’d be huge.

So, thank you Pat! I plan to put some renewed effort into marketing, especially on YouTube and also consider some paid advertising, either on Amazon itself or with Google. And, coaching. An interesting suggestion and something to consider. I think it has some potential and might be something that people would actually pay me for.
