Self Publishing Answers Podcast- I’m on it!

Thanks to the Self Publishing Answers podcast (episode #34) for answering my question so helpfully. It was basically about whether or not I should focus on a bigger niche or continue with the one that I’m currently in (ESL teachers). They had a ton of ideas for me but the biggest takeaway was that my major problem is that I only have 2 things to sell (The Wealthy English Teacher and How to Get a…

Make Your Own Luck

Yesterday, I gave a ride to a newbie to Korea in my car who I’d never met before. She was a friend of a friend and the first thing she said to me was, “You’re so lucky to have a car.” Now, I’m not picking on her particularly because she is a nice person but my answer to her was my standard one: “It’s not luck. Anyone can do it.” Sure, it takes a bit…

Website Development with WordPress

On the encouragement of a friend of mine, I’ve just bought my own name ( and plan to develop this website, with the goal to make it my “mother-site” that connects all my other Internet ventures in a coherent kind of way (Hubpages, Ebooks, teaching blog, and Hubpages. I’ve gone with the GoDaddy for the hosting and domain name and then for the platform, basically forcing myself out of the drag and drop platforms,…

2014 Passive Income Report

This past year, I earned $4375 in passive income, for an average of $365/month. The bulk of this was in dividend payouts (over $3000) and Hubpages (formerly Squidoo) with just over a $1000. I am going to write 2 more ebooks within the next year (hopefully the next few weeks actually!) so that revenue stream will increase significantly for 2015. And although Hubpages sometimes feels like a bit of a tough slog, I earned $1000…

December 2014 Passive Income Report

This month’s passive income totaled $725.01, most of which was dividends. December is traditionally the best month of the year for dividend payouts. I also earned a decent amount for my Ebook How to Get a University Job in South Korea: The English Teaching Job of Your Dreams ($25); I’d be pretty happy if I kept earning this amount each month. For a detailed look at my passive income report, check out this link. Compared…

Ebook Marketing…the importance of having a following/reputation

Something that I’ve seen as I’ve ventured into the world of self publishing is the need to already have a positive reputation and a following of people in whatever community you can find your target audience in. While I’m sure it is possible to self-publish a book that is a one-hit wonder, I don’t think it would be that easy unless it somehow went viral. I think followers of my blog (My Life! Teaching in…

Early Sales of my new Ebook

I published my first book on Amazon Kindle Direct (How to Get a University Job in South Korea: The English Teaching Job of Your Dreams) on November 11th and early sales have been quite good, especially considering the minimal amount of marketing that I’ve done and the poor timing. Ideally, I would have had it published in early October instead of mid-November. So far, I’ve just posted on a few of the sites that English…

Ebook into Physical Book: easier than you might think

I originally had the idea to make exclusively an Ebook(How to Get a University Job in South Korea), but that was before I realized how easy it is on Amazon to make your Ebook into a physical book. It takes a couple hours, at most to get everything set up and the price I will earn on commission is about the same as the Ebook, so it seemed like there was really nothing to lose.…
