Starting something new: what are you giving up?

What are you giving up?

A lot of people that I meet think it’s amazing that I have 5 books up on Amazon (see them all here) which I wrote all within the last 1.5 years. Then, many of them will say something like:

“I want to write a book too!”

“I have this idea for a website.”

“I want to start a business when I go home.”

“I want to build some passive income streams too.”

My response is always the same: Awesome! You should totally do it-you won’t regret it. So what are you going to give up?

People expect the first part, but not the second. What do you mean, they usually ask. Give up something? Writing a book, starting a business, building passive income streams, or making an awesome website takes time, energy, and effort, and lots of it.

But there’s nothing I can give up!

Really? There are plenty of people who have full-time jobs and give up a bit of sleep to get up at 4 or 5am to do some work before their day-job starts. Others (like me!) cut out TV and movies. Some (like me too!) cut down on going out with friends so much. Others give up overtime at the day-job in order to focus on the other thing they’ve got going on.

Trust me-there’s always something you can give up.

It might be a little bit painful at first, but once you sell a copy of your first book, or some traffic to your website, or your first customer for your business, it’ll be worth it.
